What is it that prevents the human being from achieving a state of true peace?
Why can’t we attain lasting happiness in this world?
The answers to these questions may not be as apparent as one would think. That is because the answers lie deep within us and originate from a long-forgotten memory.
We struggle, scratch, and claw to achieve some measure of “peace and happiness” while on Earth. We seek it in all sorts of professions and pastimes, as well as religious and spiritual devotions. Still, even with our most determined attempts we are frequently left with nothing but the opposite of what we seek. Our efforts are as futile as trying to hold water in our hands on a hot summer day.
This results in an inner conflict as we stubbornly work to rebuild our personal ant hills after they have been kicked over. Repeatedly, we go about the business of chasing the brass ring of “Happiness”.
This fruitless pursuit can dominate our entire lives. Always we are left with the question, “Why can’t I be happy?”
How can we resolve this Inner Conflict?
Human-beings must develop true Insight into ourselves and the Cosmic Domain in which we exist. Without this critical Self-Knowledge we are left to tilt with windmills, like Don Quixote. We will be as Sisyphus was, struggling in endless futility to push a boulder to the top of a steep hill, only to watch it roll back down to the bottom before we have reached the summit.
