Golden Rosycross
Glossary

The Golden Rosycross is a modern Gnostic Spiritual School, and the most recent link in the long chain of Spiritual Schools throughout the ages. The Gnostic teachings and Universal Language found in our literature are those used by the founders of the Golden Rosycross, who often adopted terms and descriptors used by previous Gnostic Schools.
This Glossary aims to assist in clarifying the meaning of many of the terms we use today.

rational-moral

in the language of the Spiritual School this means the intellect and the feeling are made susceptible by the gnostic touch for the insight and understanding of what the path requires.

reflection sphere

the dialectical nature-order possesses two halves of existence: a material sphere and a reflection sphere. The material sphere is the region in which we live during our lives. The reflection sphere is the region in which, among other things, the process between death of the old personality and the vivifying of the new personality take place. This sphere embraces the spheres of hell and purgatory (the sphere of purification) and what in natural religion and occultism is wrongly indicated as `heaven', or `eternal life'. These heavenly spheres and the existences in them are just as subject to finiteness and transitoriness as existence in the material sphere. The reflection sphere is the temporary abode of the dead, which does not imply that the deceased personality will be raised up to new life. There is no survival of the fourfold personality; only the deepest nucleus of the consciousness, the Spirit-spark, is temporarily re-accepted into the aural being and forms the basis of consciousness for a new personality.

religion

the belief in and worship of a superhuman power or powers, whether a God or gods. However, from the perspective of the Golden Rosycross, true religion requires an active revivification of the Divine essence, the Spirit-spark, that lies dormant within the human being, and subsequently, the active purification and transformation of the microcosm into the New Life Field, as Spirit-Soul-Being, as the Original or True Man

respiration field

the force-field immediately surrounding the personality, within which the life of the personality is made possible. This field connects the auric being and the personality. One of its functions is to attract and repel materials and forces for the maintenance of the personality, and as such it is completely one with the personality.

Rose and Cross

the rose represents the re-created central divine principle, the Spirit-spark that has reestablished a conscious connection between the Soul-Conscious Human Being and the Spirit. The Cross represents both the process of transformation and the two-fold nature of the human being. The horizontal beam represents the earthly dynamic temporal nature of the Human Being and the World, whereas the vertical beam represents the transcendent impulse of the Spirit into and permeating that World and the Human Being, who has opened him or herself to the Sevenfold Radiations of the Spirit, and placed the Rose at the centre of their being, forming the complete and twofold manifestation of Spirit-Soul-Being - the golden Rosycross.

Rose of the heart

a mystical term for the original atom or Christ atom. It coincides with the top of the right heart ventricle in the mathematical centre of the microcosm. It is a rudimentary remnant of the original, divine life. The rose of the heart, also called the golden grain of Jesus, or the wondrous jewel in the lotus, is the germ of a completely new microcosm, the divine seed that has been kept as a promise of salvation in fallen man, so that one day the moment will come when he remembers his origin and be filled with longing for the House of the Father. Then the Light of the spiritual sun, the Light of the Gnosis, can awaken the slumbering rose-bud. After the pupil’s positive and persevering reaction, the process of regeneration will commence in keeping with the divine plan of salvation.

Rosicrucian Christianity

gnostic Christianity of the Rosicrucian era. The gnostic impulse of the Classical Rosicrucians ushered in a new era for the World and humankind, particular in the western European world, leading to the Renaissance and to the protestant Reformation. Spiritually, the fruits of this impulse now manifest in the symbology and philosophy of the Golden Rosycross and other gnostic Rosicrucian movements through the 700 years since the end of the Middle Ages. The Rosicrucian manifestos and the allegorical depiction of the gnostic path described in the Alchemical Wedding of Christian Rosycross were a major influence on the Founders of the Spiritual School of the Golden Rosycross, and still have a prominent place in its centres, foci and activities around the World today.

Rosicrucian Initiation

the process of initiation that utilises the words, symbols and allegories of the Classical and modern Rosicrucians to describe its path and transforming activities.

Rosicrucian orders

since the gnostic impulse of the Classical Rosicrucians many groups and religious orders have utilised their allegories and symbols to emulate that impulse. The Golden Rosycross avoids using the term 'order' to describe itself, for two reasons. Firstly, 'order' is often used to describe an offshoot of the traditional churches, whereas the Golden Rosycross is a gnostic Spiritual School. Secondly, ‘order’ is used to describe many occult and mystic groups, whereas the Golden Rosycross tries to avoid any ambiguity for seekers who may be attracted by the religious connotations associated with 'order'.

Rosycross

the Rose represents the re-created central divine principle, the Spirit-spark that has reestablished a conscious connection between the Soul-Conscious Human Being and the Spirit. The Cross represents both the process of transformation and the two-fold nature of the human being. The horizontal beam representing the earthly dynamic temporal nature of the Human Being and the World. The vertical beam represents the transcendent impulse of the Spirit permeating the Human Being who has opened him or herself to the Sevenfold Radiations of the Spirit. The Rose has been affixed at the centre of their being, forming the complete and twofold manifestation of Spirit-Soul-Being - the Rosy-Cross.

Self-initiation

Initiation is the process or path of Spiritual Transformation, a path that leads to the attainment of the Christ-consciousness, or Universal Consciousness, in the human being who has purified and prepared themselves for it, and in which all the prerequisite changes have taken place. Self-initiation refers to the fact that this process can only take place when the initiate opens themselves to this process, and truly implements this process in and through their own volition, that is, in full cooperation with the Spirit that resonates within them as a pure guiding force. Hence, nobody else can undertake for them any aspect of their path; no priest, guru or teacher can bestow on the initiate any change in their state of consciousness: the Initiate must change themselves.

Self-knowledge

"Man, know yourself, and you will know the gods." The key to the Gnostic path is self-knowledge; if you are not fully aware of your present state of conscious, what brought you into that, and what keeps you from changing your state of consciousness, then there is no possibility for truly transforming your consciousness, and therefore your state of life. This is why since ancient times self-knowledge has been the key to the Gnostic spiritual path.
